About Us
Rob and Lynnie Kriel would love to welcome you to Evergreen River Guest Farm, a hidden gem nestled along the banks of the majestic Groot Marico River. Just a short drive from Gauteng, our privately owned farm is located in the Marico Biosphere Reserve, a UNESCO-approved site known for its breathtaking natural beauty.
As you journey along the scenic N4 Platinum Highway, you’ll leave behind the hustle and bustle of city life and enter a tranquil oasis where time stands still. Our farm is a haven of serenity, offering a peaceful escape from the stresses of everyday life.
At Evergreen River Guest Farm, we have thoughtfully designed our accommodation to ensure your comfort and relaxation. Whether you choose to stay in our offroad caravan/tent campsite, capable of hosting up to 20 guests, or in one of our three self-catering cottages, which can accommodate up to 16 guests, you’ll find a warm and inviting space to call your own.
Our charming cottages, Le Butterfly (sleeps 6), Star Gazer (sleeps 6), and Firefly (sleeps 4), are not only spacious and comfortable, but wheelchair friendly due to their spaciousness and fully equipped with everything you need for a memorable stay. From a potjie pot for those traditional South African stews, to a gas skottel braai for outdoor cooking, gas stove with oven, outdoor showers with hot and cold water, private splash pools, indoor fireplaces, outdoor firepits for bonfires and stargazing, undercover braai areas – we’ve taken care of every detail to ensure your stay with us is nothing short of exceptional.
For those seeking a unique camping experience, we also offer the Karee River Camp. There are two camp base houses, Sweet Thorn and River Bushwillow. These each have a separate shower, separate loo, and kitchenette area ensuring your camping experience is both convenient and enjoyable. While there is no electricity at the camp, we provide a convenient electrical point for guests to charge their appliances and make use of our fridge/freezer. Set just 40 meters from the flowing waters of the Groot Marico River, this camp is a nature lover’s paradise. Imagine waking up to the soothing sounds of nature, surrounded by breathtaking mountain views and the golden glow of a sunrise or sunset.
At Evergreen River Guest Farm, we welcome furry friends and believe that pets are an essential part of the family vacation. With our prior arrangement, your four-legged companions can join you on your adventure, adding an extra layer of enjoyment to your stay. Please ensure you read our terms and conditions with doggy stays.
So come and enjoy casting a line and fish in our river, go for a leisurely stroll or tree spotting walk, take an invigorating bike ride, book a hiking trail, marvel at the beauty of the starry night sky, enjoy our prolific bird life, lets the kiddies feed the poultry, or simply relax and lose yourself in a good book. Celebrate the changing seasons and immerse yourself in the local culture by picking fresh citrus fruits and pecan nuts. Or simply surrender to the tranquillity of our unspoiled nature, basking in the sense of peace and joy that only the great outdoors can provide. For the more adventurous souls, the nearby Groot Marico Eye offers scuba diving and snorkelling opportunities, providing a unique underwater experience. There is lots to do in and around Groot Marico and we will gladly share our list of things to do.
At Evergreen River Guest Farm, we invite you to experience a world untamed, where beauty and serenity converge. Escape from the ordinary and create memories that will last a lifetime.
You are welcome to bring your own mountain/quad bikes and offroad motorbikes to enjoy riding all the scenic dirt roads in our area and surrounds.
If you are a snorkeling / scuba-diving enthusiast, you may want to consider having a picnic/braai at the Marico Eye. The Marico Eye is a 30 km drive from the farm. It is a Heritage Site. The water is crystal clear and pristine and has a depth of 17 m.
We have about 200 indigenous tree species in Groot Marico and the 2nd most bird species in S.A. We also have 7 different eco systems and are part of the Marico Biosphere Reserve.
Your hosts, Rob & Lynnie Kriel, look forward to meeting you and welcoming you on their farm.

I stayed in the Firefly Cottage with my little dog and what a delight. It's off grid, but I did not even notice. Extremely comfortable accommodation with all amenities and very well equipped. I did tubing on the river and drove to the Oog for some snorkeling. Would recommend it all. But should you wish to stay on the farm, there is plenty of activity. From Bushbucks, to special birding opportunities, Evergreen has it all. The hosts are just the best. Salt of the earth people with big hearts who have put all attention and consideration into this farm. Their aim is peace and tranquility so please respect that. You will probably leave here with some goodies from the farm and also some of their organic produce from seed to product. I do believe I have left here richer for knowing Lynnie and Rob. Wishing you all the success that comes your way! Onwards and upwards. Regards, Kelly and Scotch.Posted on Hetty VinkTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. At Evergreen Guest Farm we camped for several days after 8th October, under the shade of a large tree. We enjoyed great hospitality from Lynnie and Rob. The campsite comes with your own toilet and shower, roomy kitchen with a farm table and hot and cold water. The campground is just a few steps away from the cool, clear Mario river, where I put my feet in to cool off. We had bright blue sky, enjoyed the birding (there is a large birding list) and tranquility. Thanks so muchPosted on Duane PalmerTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Slept to the sound of the soft flowing stream and woke to the gentle sound of birds, what a beautiful and peaceful campsite, great functional kitchen space and ablutions just for our family. My children enjoyed their time tubing down the steam, playing with the friendly dogs, picking citrus fruits, and just quality bonding time together. It’s so close to Botswana, we can’t wait to visit again. Lynnie and Rob are wonderful hosts, thank you!Posted on Angelene ScheepersTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Thanks!Posted on Roelene ElsTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Our South African explorations led us deep into the Groot Marico Valley, where we found a true gem: Evergreen Guest Farm. While being off-road bike friendly was a definite plus, the real magic was its prime spot right along the Groot Marico River. Each private unit felt like our own quiet corner of the world. But it was the hosts who made our stay truly special. From their warm welcome at the yellow gate to thoughtful touches inside our wooden hut – rosemary in the fridge, vases with fresh leaves – every detail showed how much they cared. And the send-off? A warm pancake with Lynnie's secret lemon jam. What a sweet, perfect "goodbye"! We're already dreaming of our next journey back to Evergreen Guest Farm. Steven & Roelene ElsPosted on AlexanderTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. t was a wonderful overnight stay. We had just crossed the border and wanted to stop for the night before it got dark. Unfortunately, several lodges we passed were closed, and we couldn’t reach the owners – something was wrong with roaming. Eventually, we headed to Evergreen River Guest Farm at random and arrived after dark. Lynn and Rob welcomed us warmly. The kids were hungry and it was too late to look for dinner, so we were ready to go to bed hungry — but our hosts treated us to a lovely meal, even though feeding camping guests isn’t their responsibility. The campsite itself is very clean and well-maintained, with every detail showing the owners’ passion for what they do. The nearby river creates a peaceful atmosphere that guarantees a deep sleep after a long day of travel. Highly recommended!
