About Us

Rob and Lynnie Kriel would love to welcome you to Evergreen River Guest Farm, a hidden gem nestled along the banks of the majestic Groot Marico River. Just a short drive from Gauteng, our privately owned farm is located in the Marico Biosphere Reserve, a UNESCO-approved site known for its breathtaking natural beauty.
As you journey along the scenic N4 Platinum Highway, you’ll leave behind the hustle and bustle of city life and enter a tranquil oasis where time stands still. Our farm is a haven of serenity, offering a peaceful escape from the stresses of everyday life.
At Evergreen River Guest Farm, we have thoughtfully designed our accommodation to ensure your comfort and relaxation. Whether you choose to stay in our offroad caravan/tent campsite, capable of hosting up to 20 guests, or in one of our three self-catering cottages, which can accommodate up to 16 guests, you’ll find a warm and inviting space to call your own.
Our charming cottages, Le Butterfly (sleeps 6), Star Gazer (sleeps 6), and Firefly (sleeps 4), are not only spacious and comfortable, but wheelchair friendly due to their spaciousness and fully equipped with everything you need for a memorable stay. From a potjie pot for those traditional South African stews, to a gas skottel braai for outdoor cooking, gas stove with oven, outdoor showers with hot and cold water, private splash pools, indoor fireplaces, outdoor firepits for bonfires and stargazing, undercover braai areas – we’ve taken care of every detail to ensure your stay with us is nothing short of exceptional.
For those seeking a unique camping experience, we also offer the Karee River Camp. There are two camp base houses, Sweet Thorn and River Bushwillow. These each have a separate shower, separate loo, and kitchenette area ensuring your camping experience is both convenient and enjoyable. While there is no electricity at the camp, we provide a convenient electrical point for guests to charge their appliances and make use of our fridge/freezer. Set just 40 meters from the flowing waters of the Groot Marico River, this camp is a nature lover’s paradise. Imagine waking up to the soothing sounds of nature, surrounded by breathtaking mountain views and the golden glow of a sunrise or sunset.
At Evergreen River Guest Farm, we welcome furry friends and believe that pets are an essential part of the family vacation. With our prior arrangement, your four-legged companions can join you on your adventure, adding an extra layer of enjoyment to your stay. Please ensure you read our terms and conditions with doggy stays.
So come and enjoy casting a line and fish in our river, go for a leisurely stroll or tree spotting walk, take an invigorating bike ride, book a hiking trail, marvel at the beauty of the starry night sky, enjoy our prolific bird life, lets the kiddies feed the poultry, or simply relax and lose yourself in a good book. Celebrate the changing seasons and immerse yourself in the local culture by picking fresh citrus fruits and pecan nuts. Or simply surrender to the tranquillity of our unspoiled nature, basking in the sense of peace and joy that only the great outdoors can provide. For the more adventurous souls, the nearby Groot Marico Eye offers scuba diving and snorkelling opportunities, providing a unique underwater experience. There is lots to do in and around Groot Marico and we will gladly share our list of things to do.
At Evergreen River Guest Farm, we invite you to experience a world untamed, where beauty and serenity converge. Escape from the ordinary and create memories that will last a lifetime.
You are welcome to bring your own mountain/quad bikes and offroad motorbikes to enjoy riding all the scenic dirt roads in our area and surrounds.
If you are a snorkeling / scuba-diving enthusiast, you may want to consider having a picnic/braai at the Marico Eye. The Marico Eye is a 30 km drive from the farm. It is a Heritage Site. The water is crystal clear and pristine and has a depth of 17 m.
We have about 200 indigenous tree species in Groot Marico and the 2nd most bird species in S.A. We also have 7 different eco systems and are part of the Marico Biosphere Reserve.
Your hosts, Rob & Lynnie Kriel, look forward to meeting you and welcoming you on their farm.

The guestfarm is very well maintained with a lot of attention to detail. Lots of nice features to entertain the guests with braai areas, chairs at the river, great rockpool at the river, a swing to jump into the river. Liked the roof over the braai at the campsite especially as we visited in summer. I also liked the plunge pool for kids at one of the bigger cottages. Each cottages has lots of space and a private view. Wonderful to downwind. Excellent for birding. Carna Labuschagne2024-12-29Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. My family and I stayed in Firefly cottage for 3 evenings. Perfect view! Was wonderful. Accommodation was fantastic and we had a great time by the stream. The hosts are so friendly and attentive to your needs and always go the estra mile. You feel like family the moment you set foot on the farm. It was our second visit and won't be our last! What a stunning location we chose to live at. Absolute tranquility and we were blessed with an amphitheatre of lightening almost every night. The accommodation was stunning with all braai amenities available - skottle, Weber and Potjie pit. Misters along the large verandah kept the heat at bay. And then, how about a walk to the river , about 200m away, and voila, paradise. Every morning the helpers were their to clean up remnants of the previous nights braai. Great place Evergreen River Lodge! Just love the one horse town of Groot Marico🥰 Don’t forget to try the mampoer! It's a campsite where one can easily relax, enjoy the calm that nature imbues, admiring the wide variety of trees, abundant and diverse birdlife and the refreshing waters of the Groot Marico river. Wifi and electricity available at the main house on request. Ina2024-10-08Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Lynnie en Rob. Thank you. Our review are solely based on the reason we booked a midweek. We needed a break off grid, silence, peace and quiet. Although not 100% off grid, our week were great, we got what we needed and our hosts respected it. The hosts are super, keep you informed of places to go and places to see - but, we just wanted natures TLC. NO TV, 90% NO CELLPHONE signal YES!!!!! (i wanted to eat the little paper cellphone sticked to the window) The rocky road not that bad and give you time on a slower ride to take nature in. Early mornings starts with a very alive nature and very busy animals and birds. Evenings brought again other nature sounds and life and the beautiful stars. Then that night time hour or two when everything goes dead silent and you hear your own breathing and the river flow. Book and get some rest. What an wonderful place to calm down!!! The host is amazing. They took so good care of us and made us feel so welcome. We loved the quiet and the Beauty around us. It was so clean and comfortable! We spend 4 nights on the campsite. We enjoyed the citrus fruits that we could pick for free! And we loved the stream that we could gently hear from our tent! No lights disturbed the star gazing in the night! And no phone signal disturbed the holidays:) off the grid for some days:) if you still need phone connection: there is a spot nearby to get some connection! Thank you two for your care !!!
